Scholz's (however you spell it) Tried to Kill Me

Subtitled: Why I Took a PTO Day at Work Today

And, perhaps, after singing "Friends in Low Places" onstage with the Burnt Orange Report bloggers, I deserved it. I apologize for any eardrums that were harmed in the performance of that song.

My evening began with the Dallas Morning News taking pictures of my OBAMA plates. Here's a picture of...them taking pictures.

And this is how $2 became $4!

After an hour or so of that and a minor costume change, we hopped across the street to begin birthday revelry. Twenty four never felt so good. Although eating something might have been wise (that one potato skin from $4 and Metz didn't really hold over until this morning). Class tried to warn me, several times, but I was too giddy to listen.

This is where eating should have occurred.

Andy Brown was in attendance, fresh off his hunt for real estate for the new HQ with $4. A potential return to 707 Rio Grande? As Man Shac said, "Isn't that where it used to be?" I dig it. Not only is it the easiest address to remember in the history of man, but that means I can volunteer and walk over to The Ranch afterwards. Not that I like that bar.

Robin Cravey was on the scene, handing out green buttons and winning my award for "easiest face-to-name recognition based off of one's logo" of the night. I haven't exactly picked a dog in the fight, however I've been enjoying his postings on BOR.

BT-dub, speaking of city & county politics, where was our Mayor last night? The Ranch?

Then it was outside and on to the state house! Diana Maldonado, who is running for State Representative in District 52, was announced as the TexBlog PAC's first endorsed candidate in the general. I haven't gotten a chance to talk to her or really hear much about her, but what I have heard has been positive. She was President of the Round Rock School Board, and education is one of her top priorities. You teachers out there (and potential teachers, M!) would be wise to rally behind her, even if she's out in Round Rock.

Also there was the former Speaker of the House, Pete Laney, and Texas Democratic Party chairman Boyd Richie. Pete Laney told me that he hadn't quite gotten the hang of the "computer thing" when I told him about my blog, and I said that the train was about to leave the station so he better get on it. I believe my exact words were "They're just letters, type them" and then I spelled out MeanRachel.com. So we'll see if he makes it by.

Pete Laney & Boyd Richie

Richie's got some good dance moves. His dance card was full. I thought about cutting in, but he left before I got a chance.

Probably the coolest part of the night, aside from The Bad Precendents dedicating my favorite song (Baba O'Reilly) to me, was that some legitimate MeanRachel.com fans came up to me wanting to take their picture! It was fun meeting them, and thank you guys for reading & making me feel like a star!

These readers were looking sharp!

It was a star-spangled night. I spared Naishtat another photo opportunity, and someone took my camera and took a 10 mega-pixel photo of the "Get Whale Soon" card for Doggett. This morning it was quite entertaining reading what everyone wrote (who signed the crack!?). Click on the photo to enlarge to the original size.

The night ended how most nights end in Texas: with everyone singing "Friends in Low Places" and me getting into an argument (with The Bad Precedent's "road manager") about George Bush.

I should start the ToneDeafBlog PAC.

An excellent kick-off to my weekend. I am now leaving for my journey to Mecca (aka Billy Joel playing in New Orleans tomorrow night). You politicians are safe from my camera for now.

btw, you may not remember but Robin Cravey is an old pal of mine from Zilker N-hood Assn days. He still lives on La Casa in Zilker and his daughters (a little older than Grace) went to Zilker. Just FYI.

  • Lee Says:

God, how can you only be 24? That makes me feel so old. I think I'm starting to hate you.

So, like, Dubya is to your consciousness what Ronald Reagan is to mine. You don't have the slightest memory of Reagan, do you? Yes, I definitely hate you.

I'm going to go drink my prune juice and go to bed now.
